Workshop for Writers at the Scottish Arts Club

A writer’s workshop with award-winning author Jane Rogers

Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st February 2016 from 10am to 4 pm.  
The fee for the workshop (not including lunch) is £115 for a Scottish Arts Club member and £125 for a non-member.

Course Description

The Scottish Arts Club, Edinburgh will hold another two-day Writers' Workshop, this time focusing on writing short stories, led by award-winning author, experienced Arvon facilitator and creative writing tutor Jane Rogers. Jane was also the 2015 Bridport Prize Short Story Judge. 
Held on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st February 2016 from 10am to 4 pm, and with a maximum of 15 participants, the workshop offers a chance to learn new skills and valuable feedback on one of your stories.

Jane Rogers will provide insightful coaching to help participants understand the needs and delivery of successful short stories. Both morning sessions will include exercises and creative discussions on the structure, narrative and fundamentals of story writing together with practical advice to make stories stronger and more entertaining. The afternoon sessions will review participants' short stories of up to 1500 words submitted in advance of the Workshop.

Jane Rogers has published eight novels and a collection of stories, TV & radio drama, and adapted work for radio and TV. Her awards include the Arthur C Clarke Award 2012 and ManBooker longlisting for The Testament of Jessie Lamb; Edge Hill Prize shortlist 2013 forHitting Trees with Sticks; and BAFTA nomination for Mr Wroe’s Virgins.  She has long experience teaching an MA Writing course and mentoring writers through to publication. Published MA tutees include James Wheatley, Susan Elliot-Wright, Rachel Genn, Marina Lewycka, Lily Dunn and Bill Hussey.  Jane is currently working on a new novel, and a radio commission to dramatise I Capture the Castle for the BBC Radio 4 Classic Serial. She has been a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature since 1994.
