Two extraordinary performers, one sensational evening! The celebrated soprano Judith Gardner Jones (right) has sung in roles as diverse as Martha in Faust, Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus, Lucy Lockett in Britten’s Beggar’s Opera, Pamina in The Magic Flute, and the diva Carlotta in The Phantom of the Opera. She is accompanied by award winning pianist Claire Haslin, who has captivated audiences in, amongst other places, London’s Purcell Room and Italy’s Montalcino Festival, as well as Edinburgh’s Queen’s Hall. Together they perform work by such composers as Liza Lehman, Rebecca Clarke, and Elisabeth Lutyens. Friday 29 August (8pm, (preceded by one course supper (£10) served from 7pm) Alex Reedijk, Director General, Scottish Opera. Founded by Sir Alexander Gibson in 1962, Scottish Opera was plunged into crisis in 2005 when the money ran out and it was controversially closed down for a season - at which point Alexander Reedijk took over as DG. Since then, the recovery has brought with it some heartening new developments, like the Five;15 series of commissioned mini-operas by contemporary writers and composers. Alex Reedijk recalls some roller-coaster moments. |
