Membership
Faithful to its original purpose as a meeting place for individuals involved in the creative arts, a large portion of the membership in the Scottish Arts Club has always included painters, sculptors, musicians, writers including novelists, journalists, poets and playwright, architects, fashion designers, and others involved in creative professions. Since the late nineteenth century, membership has also been open to non-professionals (Lay Members), with an interest in the arts. Lay Members have included prominent academics, jurists, finance, business and medical professionals, scientists, and others. Professional and Lay Members enjoy the same rights and privileges within the Club. Indeed, many of the Lay Members are themselves accomplished painters, writers and musicians in their own right.

Admission
Membership in the Scottish Arts Club is open to men and women over the age of eighteen. Candidates for membership are nominated by existing Members (a Proposer and Seconder are required) and presented for election to the Club's governing Council. Names of Candidates are posted in the Club for four weeks prior to election, allowing Members to comment to the Council on the suitability of each Candidate for admission. Although the Club does not accept unsolicited applications for membership, the Council is happy to introduce potential members to possible Proposers and Seconders, and will from time to time host social events for this purpose. Individuals involved in, or interested in, the creative arts who wish such an introduction should contact the Membership Convenor.
